Organizational components are becoming more and more popular in kitchen cabinetry and therefore the selection is becoming more and more vast. Organizational components can range in complexity and price. Semi-custom cabinetry lines carry a selection of cabinets that contain organizational components installed by the factory, but you can also purchase organizational components from specific dealers to be installed on site into your custom cabinetry.
The most basic and popular organizational components are rollout shelving. Rollout shelves can be a variety of heights and depths. The can be placed on all types of drawer glides for your desired construction level. Rollout shelves eliminate the need to crouch and reach toward the back of your cabinet.
Organizational components are also often found in corner cabinets as a way of making what can often be an awkward storage space more accessible. Easy reach base corners cabinet can have lazy susans installed in them, either made out of molded plastic or wood. The shelves can swing together or voluntarily and can even come with self-righting hardware.
Trash rollouts are also very popular additions to kitchen cabinetry. They can also be included in wet bars, butler’s pantries and laundry rooms. Trash rollouts contain anywhere from one to four separate bins to allow for recycling applications as well.
Tray and platter storage is another common organization component found in kitchen cabinetry. These can range in construction from rubber coated wire or wood dividers, to wood rollout trays with storage slots. Tray storage is often located in the upper section of a tall oven cabinet or in a 6-18 wide base kitchen cabinet.
Elaborate pantry systems are also available for tall custom cabinetry. They often feature swing out shelves and additional door storage, eliminating the hassle of row-stacked storage without eliminating storage volume. These systems are often the most expensive organizational components, as they are the largest and have the most moving pieces.
Canned good and bottle storage can also come in the form of pullout base kitchen cabinets or tall kitchen cabinets. Pull-outs are usually 3-12” wide with the smaller widths used for spice storage around the cook top. Pantry pullouts allow for double-sided access to stored items for the entire depth of the shelf.
Organizational components are also becoming more and more popular additions to bathroom cabinetry. Pullouts are now being specifically tailored to hold bathroom type items such as electrical outlets, hairdryers and jewelry. Door storage components can be added to your linen cabinet to hold extra toiletries. Chrome rollout trays are popular additions to base vanity cabinets.
There are also organizational components designed specifically for your home office or study. File organizers, and roll-out trays for printers are available. CD holder inserts can be placed into drawers or rollout trays. Open paper, letter and supply storage components can also be added.
Part of a cabinetry designer’s job is to determine what the client’s specific storage needs are and to suggest places where organizational components can be worked into the cabinet design to serve these needs. Make sure and communicate to your cabinet designer any specific storage requirements or desires. Call, email or come by The Savannah Cabinet Shop today and we’ll start the process together.
